Container Gardens
Make Perfect Gifts!
Roses not only
look pretty,
they smell wonderful and make great container plants!

Container gardening is fast becoming one of the most popular types of gardening. Mixed pots are instant focal points and make a patio or deck more beautiful. They also make perfect gifts. At Full Bloom Nursery, we make our own mixed containers using annuals and perennials for sun and shade. The containers themselves are unique and compliment the plants that we use in them. All of the plants in the container have the same water and light requirement. We use a top quality soil and add Osmocote, a slow release fertilizer. Our containers have become so popular that sometimes we are in the greenhouse at night with the lights on making them! We also make custom pots for customers that want us to use certain plants and many of our customers bring us their favorite pot(s).
Container gardens are easy to care for. Water them when the top inch or so of soil becomes dry and don’t forget to pinch the plants back about once a month. Trailing plants especially benefit from pinching back the stem approx. 3-4”. Many people hate the thought of pinching plants back when they look good, but if you don’t pinch them they will start to look straggly and thin. Just remember that when you buy bedding plants that look full and lush, it’s because the grower began pinching them back immediately after they planted them. When you pinch a stem back, it responds by sprouting several shoots that give you more leaves and flowers.
Regular watering and an occasional haircut are all that a container garden needs to look beautiful all season. Just make sure your pot has been fertilized with a quality slow release fertilizer. Liquid fertilizers work well also, but must be used every 2 weeks. A slow release fertilizer will last for several months because every time you water, some of the pellet dissolves and feeds the plants.
